Climb and Cycling Tour to Borišov

Borišov Peak, at 1,510 m, is like a piece of fairy-tale paradise in Veľká Fatra. Located near the popular Ploská Peak, it offers stunning views and a unique mountain atmosphere, perfect for nature lovers.

The trip can start by bike from our Woodpark chalets, with the cycling route passing through Trebostovo and Žabokreky to Necpaly. For those who prefer hiking, you can drive directly to the village of Necpaly and continue on foot.

The Necpalská dolina valley, through which the route runs, lies on the western side of Veľká Fatra. The Necpalský stream flows along the valley, accompanying you throughout the journey. The valley is approximately 11 km long and follows a marked blue trail. Almost the entire valley is covered by an asphalt road with a gentle ascent, making it suitable for both cycling and an easy hike.

Along the way, you will encounter several points of interest. The most notable are the Jánošíkove Skaly rock formation and the small Necpaly Waterfalls. The waterfalls range in height from 1.2 to 3 meters: the Second (or Lower) Necpalský Waterfall (approx. 2 m), the First (or Upper/Great) Necpalský Waterfall (approx. 3 m), and the Small Necpalský Waterfall (approx. 1.2 m). We did not visit these waterfalls on this particular trip.

The largest waterfall in the valley is the Revúcky Mlyn Waterfall, approximately 4.5 meters high, located on the right side of the road near the Balcierovo crossroads. This waterfall is one of the most striking in Veľká Fatra and retains plenty of water even in drier periods.

Along the route, you will also find several shelters, ideal for resting or enjoying refreshments. The cycling route officially ends at the Balcierovo crossroads, but we recommend continuing about 2 km further to the Ústie Hornoborišovská dolina crossroads, where you can lock your bicycles to nearby trees and continue on foot.

The hike to Chata pod Borišovom follows the blue trail. Right from the wooden bridge at the start, you face the steepest climb of the entire route. This section, surrounded by rocks and cliffs, is quite challenging, especially in winter, when we recommend carrying crampons in case the trail is icy.

After about ten minutes, the ascent eases, and views of the ridge and Borišov Peak start to open up. The trail continues through meadows, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape, including the nearby Ploská Peak. After a short forested section, you reach Chata pod Borišovom, situated at 1,300 m above sea level.

Chata pod Borišovom is known for its cozy atmosphere and is an ideal place to rest. It offers accommodation for 20 people and serves excellent mountain cuisine. Upon entering, you are greeted by a warm dining area with a ceramic stove, which provides comfort on cold days and is also used to dry wet clothing.

The hut is open year-round and sits at the crossroads of several hiking trails. From here, you can continue along the ridge trail via Ploská to Krížna, or follow the yellow trail directly to the summit of Borišov.

From Chata pod Borišovom, the summit of Borišov can be reached in about 20 minutes. A short climb leads to the upper meadow, where a panoramic 360° view opens up. Borišov Peak (1,510 m) sits at the “center” of Veľká Fatra and, together with neighboring peaks Ploská and Chýžky, forms an attractive destination for anyone seeking the beauty of Slovak nature.

From the summit, you can see Malá Fatra (Krivánska section), the nearby Lysec Peak, the peaks of the Low and High Tatras, the Turiec Basin, and the town of Martin. On clear days, Kriváň in the High Tatras is visible, one of Slovakia’s iconic symbols.

This tour to Borišov Peak is an easy yet fascinating trip, rewarding you with stunning views, the peace of nature, and a unique mountain atmosphere. The route covers 46 km by bike and 9 km on foot, with the entire trip taking about 8 hours including breaks.
